Nutritional Value and Safety of Microhydrin®

Clinical Study

ENVIRONMENTAL/INVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES (E/I T)

As a potent antioxidant donating electrons to the body, Microhydrin may increase pH, electrons, and conductivity in the blood and intracellular fluids. To determine the nutritional contribution and safety of such potential effects, a group of 14 subjects were evaluated for these parameters and then given four capsules of Microhydrin each day for 21 days. Blood, urine, and saliva were tested before, during and after supplementation using the Biological Terrain Analyzer an instrument that permits direct measurement of the fluids, and graphic presentation of the data.

At the time of publication of this paper, data on the subjects was being compiled, however one typical subject will be described here. The final report will be published soon.

A 48 year old female who had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease 10 years prior was evaluated using a Biological Terrain Assessment protocol. The standard BTA measures the pH, reduction/oxidation potential, and resistivity values of blood, saliva, and urine. Other values are derived using a program developed by Biological Technologies International. Baselines were established on all tests and indices before the subject started the supplementation schedule. The subject took four Microhydrin capsules following a daily schedule of two in the morning, one at midday and one before retiring. BTA testing was performed weekly for three weeks. BTA results and calculated indices showed that numerous parameters improved over the 21 day period of Microhydrin supplementation.

A female, aged 48 years, underwent radiation treatment ten years ago for Hodgkin's disease. Hair analysis at that time showed high levels of copper toxicity. She had a current physical evaluation prior to this regime of supplementation. Activities in her present routine, diet or other dietary supplementation were not altered during this test period.

Hodgkin's disease is a form of cancer of the lymph glands, lymphocytes and spleen. In the past it was a fatal disease and remains one if untreated, but the majority of patients with Hodgkin's Disease can now be cured if diagnosed and treated early. The lymphoma presents itself often with swollen lymph glands, intermittent fever, night sweats, weight loss, jaundice, anemia, and an increased susceptibility to infections. The disease is usually treated with radiation and anti-cancer drugs.

Biological Terrain Testing

BTA testing consists of measuring the pH, the reduction/oxidation potential (redox or rH2 value), and resistivity (R value) of the subject's blood, saliva, and urine. The instrument utilized was a BTA S-2000 produced by Biological Technologies International. Biological Age, Energy Quantity, Cellular Defense Index, Cellular Degeneration Index, and a ponderated r value (related bowel toxicity) were calculated using a computer program developed by Biological Technologies for BTA testing that generates the data and graphs as shown in graphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and a table. These measurements were taken the week before and every week after beginning the Microhydrin supplement program for 21 days. The BTA S-2000 instrument and terms used for values and indices are not meant for diagnostic or treatment purposes and have not been approved by the FDA. Royal BodyCare, Biological Technologies Inc., and Environmental/Invironmental (E/I T) Technology are not responsible for use of this material for purposes other than intended.

Results

Graph 1 shows the results of 21 days (3 weeks) of pH testing. The pH value was altered substantially in all three body fluids towards a more optimal alkaline value. The pH of the blood before Microhydrin was 7.44. After 21 days of Microhydrin supplementation the value was 7.36 (optimal values 7.30-7.35). The value for the saliva before supplementation was 6.95 and after 3 weeks of Microhydrin supplementation was 6.62 (optimal values 6.50-6.75). The pH of the urine before supplementation was 5.51 and after 21 days after Microhydrin supplementation was 6.41 (optimal values 6.50-6.80). The blood and saliva values moved into the optimal range after supplementation and the urine sample was raised one pH unit towards the optimal range.

Graph 2 shows the results of 21 days of reduction/oxidation potential values (redox, rH2 value). The redox value of the blood before supplementation was 24.8 and after three weeks of Microhydrin supplementation was 24.7 (optimum values 21.5-23.5). The redox value for the saliva was 24.9 before supplementation and 24.6 (optimum value 21.5-23.5) after three weeks of supplementation with Microhydrin The redox value of the urine was 21.7 before supplementation and 23.5 (optimal value 22.5-24.5) after Microhydrin supplementation. Although the blood and urine redox values did not alter considerably the urine value moved into the optimal range after Microhydrin supplementation.

The resistivity value for blood was 230 before supplementation and after Microhydrin supplementation 214 (optimal value 190-210) The resistivity value for saliva was 148 before and 203 (optimal value 180-220) after Microhydrin supplementation. The resistivity value for urine before supplementation was 57 and after Micxrohydrin supplementation was 97 (optimal value 30-45). The resistivity of the blood and saliva values moved closer to or into the optimal range respectively with supplementation. Although the urine value changed it did not move into the optimal range over this three week period.

The Zone charts show a combined value of all measures established for the individual. Included are the Zone charts before the supplementation program and after 21 days of Microhydrin supplementation. This is a three-dimensional representational graph of the nine core numbers that make up the readings of pH, rH2, and r-values of the blood, saliva, and urine. The triangles can be seen to represent a combined value. The white triangle represents the optimal values of the individual's terrain as assessed by BTA. The green area could be seen to represent the current assessment of the subject. An ideal reading of the Zone chart would have triangles resting directly in the middle of the screen. The further these values (triangles) are from each other the less healthy the subject. Zones in yellow represent a zone of cellular degeneration. The red zone represents severe cellular degeneration.

Several other parameters and indices were calculated that are derived using the BTA results and the BTA program developed for this purpose by Biological Technologies. The graphics shown in Graphs 6 and 7 are generated using the data from the subjects test results over the three week supplementation period.

The terms used in graphs 6 and 7 (Biological Age, Energy Quantity, Cellular Degeneration Index and Cellular Defense Index) are used for purposes to show indications that represent other calculations using BTA data, but are not meant as diagnostic or medically representative terms. Biological Age, a derived value shown respectively in graphs 6 and 7, went from 73 to 64 indicating a nine year improvement after 21 days of Microhydrin supplementation. The derived value for Energy Quantity went from 1.1 to 1.9 over the three weeks of supplementation. Cellular Defense, a derived value indicating the body's immune capacity, improved 9 points going from 19.1 to 28.1 over the supplementation period. The Cellular Degeneration Index showed a beneficial change from 2.2 to 5.2. The Cellular Defense Index and Cellular Degeneration Index were improved substantially over the supplementation period indicating that the cellular function was improving and not regressing.

The r ponderated value is an indicator of bowel and cellular toxicity and often indicates that the cells are releasing toxins. The lower value may indicate that she is actively in a stage of detoxifying. These values generated are not meant to be used as diagnostic or medical terms but are terms useful to BTA clinicians when evaluating subjects and their health history and present status. Clinicians use BTA tests for evaluating the condition of their subjects and are further trained in the values and parameters defined and what they are meant to indicate. For purposes of this study the BTA tests were used as an indicator as to the safety of Microhydrin. The present subject's BTA values showed indications on numerous parameters that the Biological Terrain was improving.

Summary

To evaluate the Biological Terrain several parameters have been established that ascertain if cells of the body are in an optimal environment or one that inhibits optimal cellular function. Although the concept of Biological Terrain was developed in the 1800's, researchers such as Louis Vincent in the 1950's and others suggest that the life processes in living organisms are dependent on the pH value, the redox value (electronic potential of the pH value) and the resistivity value (R=1/Conductivity) of the fluids surrounding the cells. Historical scientists and those of today have realized that the cellular environment is important in assessing the biological state and functioning of the cells (19). These values may be related to the health, energy status and the state of regeneration or degeneration of the cells of the body.

Biochemical reactions and transport mechanisms across cell surface membranes are limited due to these ion-electronic factors some are better understood now than they were 50 years ago (12,13). These ionic-electronic factors of the biological fluids surrounding the cells (i.e. blood, lymph, etc.) have a profound effect on the transport of nutrients and wastes across cell membranes as well as energy generating mechanisms within the cells (12,19). The ionic-electronic factors of these fluids are determined by the nature of the diet, the amount of water consumed, toxic exposure and the general health of the body. The environment or terrain that supports optimal cell function, reproduction and viability can be a helpful tool for the clinician.

Although this preliminary study occurred over a brief period of three weeks on the Microhydrin supplement schedule, positive trends were observed in several of the BTA values indicating improvements in the biological environment. The subject experienced no known side effects and her Biological Terrain as assessed by these tests indicated that some values approached more optimal ranges.
